The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association has cautioned Muslim Umma to desist from slaughtering animals who shows signs of disease infections to avoid human to animal disease transmission.
The chairman of the association Kano state chapter Dr. Abubakar Sani Inuwa disclosed this to our correspondent in a telephone interview in Kano.
Dr. Abubakar Inuwa said Animals should not be given drugs especially antibiotics for at least two weeks before slaughter in an effort to curtail the chance of developing antimicrobial resistance in humans.
The chairman said animals to be slaughtered healthy and alert adding that different ways are used to identify healthier ones.

Dr. Abubakar Inuwa also advises households especially women to rigorously wash meat and food items in order to avoid getting contact with diseases saying that many animals were brought from different states and even neighboring countries as different states in Africa experience outbreak of some diseases recently.
The association also enjoys people to take precautionary measures when roasting heads, skin, and legs as many people use old-style which contain carcinogenic agents capable of causing cancer in humans.
