The Board of Trustees, North Eastern University, Gombe, has appointed the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, as the university’s First Chancellor.

Presenting the Appointment Letter to His Royal Highness in Gombe, the Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Maigari, said the Emir of Gombe had met all the qualities of the esteemed position, which traditionally sought a prominent individual, and icon of unity, to serve as the ceremonial head of the university.

The BoT Chairman, who was represented by a board member, Awwal Babayo Shehu, said the appointment of a Chancellor aligned with the Nigerian Universities Commission’s Code of Governance for Private Universities.

“These sterling qualities have been the guiding principles of His Royal Highness’s reign, echoing the principles that guided his forefather Modibbo Bubayero in executing the Jihad under Shehu Usmanu Ɗanfodio. He has been executing the leadership mandates he inherited on the Gombe throne with excellence, promoting unity, philanthropy, and the protection of the weak and vulnerable members of society,” said Maigari.

“Your Royal Highness Sir, you have shown unwavering support for North-Eastern University, Gombe, therefore, by appointing you as our first Chancellor, we are not only honouring your significant contributions but also reinforcing our commitment to the ideals and goals that define North-Eastern University, Gombe,” Maigari said.

He said the institution believed that the leadership of the Emir of
Gombe would undoubtedly inspire the institution to achieve new academic excellence and community development heights.

The BoT Chairman therefore thanked the Emir of Gombe for accepting to serve as the first Chancellor of the great North Eastern University, Formally Pen Resource University.

“Your Royal Highness, we are deeply honoured to have you as part of our university family officially. We look forward to your visionary leadership and guidance as we embark on this exciting journey together,” said Maigari.

Abubakar said the delegation from the University to his palace, with almost all stakeholders present, was impressive and spoke volumes about the dedication and hard work of everyone involved.

He pledged to support the university in every way possible as Chancellor and to work tirelessly to ensure that the North-Eastern University, Gombe, remained a beacon of knowledge, innovation, and excellence in education.

“Together, we will continue to strive for greatness and make a lasting impact on the lives of our students and the world at large,” said Abubakar.
