The member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency, Alhassan Ado Doguwa has tendered a public apology to Abdullahi Yakubu, Leadership Newspaper reporter in Kano after the later sued him for assault.

The House of Reps majority leader ran into trouble last month after inviting journalists to his Kano home to narrate his side of a story after he was accused of assaulting the APC 2023 deputy governor candidate in the state, Sule Garo.

Doguwa who was angered by a comment from the reporter who was trying to calm him down based on their personal relationship, ended up assaulting him leaving him with hearing challenges thereafter.

While tendering the apology, Doguwa said; “I was invited to the Zone 1 Police Headquarters yesterday Friday after I was informed a journalist has sued me.

I studied journalism, I know it’s ethics and would always come back to it should I leave politics.

I want the public to know I have apologized to Abdullahi Yakubu over the case of assault as he reported.

I respect human rights, I respect journalists knowing how they are respected worldwide, they are also Frontline workers.

Yakubu and I have been close friends for over 32years, it is unfortunate things went this way and I’m very sorry for all that has happened so far” he added.

Abdullahi Yakubu, on his part accepted the apology and promised to direct his lawyers to withdraw the case from court.

Recall that, the Majority Leader stormed the premises of Alh. Sule Garo in October when he learnt about an ongoing meeting by some APC party members and accosted them why he was not invited leading to exchange of words.

Doguwa in the process, was reported to have assaulted Garo and left him with physical injury after using a breakable teacup on the meeting host, Garo.

The development led to tensed atmosphere between the two camps but were eventually settled by the Governor of the State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Alhassan Doguwa continues to receive criticism from different quarters over his uncontrollable anger despite being a public figure.
