Pneumonia Day: Jigawa commences implementation of BHCPF scheme

Jigawa state government says it had commenced the implementation of Basic Health care Provision Fund service at all the 279 primary Health care facilities for poor and vulnerable groups in the state.

The Permanent Secretary ministry of Health, Dr. Salisu Mu`azu stated this at a press briefing to mark the 2021 Pneumonia Day organized by the Save the Children International Jigawa state office at the conference hall of the ministry in Dutse.

He said Jigawa state Government had introduced a number of programmes that will help in improving the health care services of its populace especially children under five.

The commissioner explained that under the Basic Health care Provision Fund over 42,129 most vulnerable person were registered to access free medical services.

“also under state Health Insurance over 250,000 were registered in which more than 50% of the beneficiaries under the programmes are children under five and priority was also given to pneumonia and other children killer diseases” the commissioner stated.

The commissioner said in it’s efforts to achieve Universal Basic Health care coverage the state Government has budget N28.7b for the 2022 appropriation which surpassed the 15% prescription of the Abuja Declaration in an effort to provide.

Chief of party inspiring project indices, Save the Children Intervention, Dr. Adamu Isah said the theme of this year is “Pneumonia and Air Pollution”

According to the Global Burden of Disease survey (2019), air pollution is responsible for almost a third of all pneumonia deaths.

Dr Adamu Isah however commended the state government for adopting national pneumonia control strategy.
