How Men are gradually taking over maize roasting business in Kano

A check by NIGERIAN TRACKER has revealed how young men are taking over the business of  maize roasting in the streets of Kano.

 

The Business was known to be the niche of women especially those from the southern part of Nigeria,now  Kano indigenes including teens are now making a brisk selling of roasted maize in the major streets of Kano.

One of them Zulkifilu Idris told our correspondent that every day he goes to Kwanar Karfi located in Kura local government area in Kano which is the depot where harvested maize is sold, he buys a full bag and come to the famous Gwarzo road leading to Bayero University new site ,roast it and sell.

When asked by NIGERIAN TRACKER why he is into the business which is known to be undertaken by southern women, Zulkifilu said due to the changing time one cannot say particular trading is restricted to women alone but since he can use it to fend for himself there is no cause for alarm.

On whether he is making much profit ,the entrepreneur said at least he makes 30 thousand Naira profit monthly from the Business.

Zulkifilu said he hails from Tsaure town in Shanono local government area of Kano state and is engaged in the trade with his brother who also gets a space on another side of the road performing the trade.

 

Zulkifli further calls on fellow youth not to underrate any kind of trade and be self-reliant.

 

Maize roasting business for many years in Kano is mostly a profession performed by women who came from the southern part of the country and is now being copied by Kano indigenes who are mostly men.

 

If one passes many streets of the ancient city of Kano ,young chaps are seeing on the road during evening hours performing the trade.
