Kano Assembly And Miscarriage Of Justice

Kano State House of Assembly

By Pascal Shuaibu

One of the pillars of Democracy is the legislature, the first thing the military does after truncating democracy is to suspend the constitution which declares their intervention null and void.

Democrats knew very well how all the two tiers of government continue to operate after military putsch but the main pillar of democracy is allowed to go which is the legislature.

Kano State House of Assembly as the main pillar of democracy is being in the news media for the wrong reasons, instead of upholding good governance and checking the excesses of the executives they mostly ended up in Kangaroo investigations that will not serve the public any good.

Those of us outside Kano state are disappointed on how the state assembly made itself a laughing stock in the eyes of the public by resorting to witchhunt instead of making independent and transparent investigation devoid of interference.

A body elected by the people to protect the interest of the electorate and to supervise the order and good governance of the state, they kept confusing their constituents on what they are actually supposed to do to help in administering a complex and important state like Kano.

I wondered how a lawmaking body like the Kano legislature will allow itself to be a toy which will be played for serving self-centred personalities just because Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado has been doing his Job as enshrined in the laws that made the commission independent so corruption and corrupt individuals will be seriously subjected to public scrutiny for the whole benefit of Kano state and especially the downtrodden whom I learnt troop to the commission daily in search of relief and aid.

I was rubbing mind with people in a village core group of what people perceived about the action of the Kano state House of assembly by coming out suddenly telling the people of Kano that they have suspended Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado for refusing to accept an accountant sent to his commission from the state’s ministry of finance.

Breaking:After Suspension Of Muhyi Magaji,Gov.Ganduje Appoints Acting Chairman PCACC
The big question is since the commission is independent as provided by the laws that established it, can we say he has committed any offence or violated any law for refusing to accept an accountant sent to his office.

The initial offence was that Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado rejected an accountant, this big question on the lips of many people is which section of the law was violated which warrants the suspension of the chairman Public complaint and anti-corruption commission.

If Kano State House of Assembly is not sliding towards anarchy and tyranny was after three days of slamming suspension on Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, he was replaced by another individual without giving him a fair hearing or any opportunity to defend himself.

If the lawmakers are not lackeys, the committee investigating the matter sent a letter to Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado inviting him to appear before the committee, addresses Muhuyi as the then chairman of the commission which means they recognized his replacement without a fair hearing.

The Kano lawmaking body needs to look inward because in all the itemised issues nowhere Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado was given a fair hearing unless they want to tell the people of Kano and Nigeria in general that the actions taken were all premeditated.

As a concerned Nigerian I advised Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado to rise up to the occasion and defend the system of fighting corruption, let’s all comrades within Kano and Nigeria voice out and defend the institutions fighting corruption.
