There are over five thousand physically challenged children that are currently attending schools in Kano Northwestern Nigeria.

The  National Vice Chairman of the Joint Association of people living with disabilities, Aminu Ahmad Tudun Wada stated this during the wrap up of a three-day training for CSO’s and Media on monitoring of Post Covid-19 palliatives distribution organized by Child Grant Programme held in Dutse the Capital of Jigawa State.

Aminu Ahmad Tudun Wada said it’s with the help of Almighty Allah and with their effort that made them realize the dream of making the disabled attend schools who are mostly minors and children.

NLC commends Northern Governors for stamping out Almajiranci

He said some parents in Northern Nigeria are contributing to the continuous disability of their children by accepting bad counseling from neighbors, some friends, and relatives.

He said, for example, a person will be blessed with children who are free of any form of deformity, the person will take all the children to school taking care of them up to the graduation level, but unfortunately if that person had one physically challenge person some people will come and give the father bad counseling.

Malam Aminu Tudun Wada sai a person will just appear from nowhere and say, you have a physically challenged person like this and you are not making money, through that bad advice a father just will take his biological son to the street to beg without no justification.

By the time people see a physically challenged minor begging on the street, they will be remorseful and start giving him charity and by the time he grows up, people will stop giving him any Kobo because to them he has attained an age that he can depend for himself.

But unfortunately, the minor has exhausted his age in the streets without going to school and those giving him alms have stopped and that made him enter into another problem.

The Vice-Chairman of the Joint association of people living with disabilities also said parents of the physically challenged children should desist from that act because it’s ruining the future of their children.

Malam Aminu Tudun Wada added that the only Government that takes care of the disabled in Kano since Nigeria’s return to Democracy was the government of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
