Eight Thousand Yobe Students decry Nonpayment of Scholarship

Eight thousand  Yobe state students studying in different tertiary institutions across the country have decried the inability of the state government to pay their local scholarships for the 2018 and 2019 academic session.

 

In a letter signed by the National Secretary of the National Union of Yobe State students  (NUYOSS) Comrade, Ibrahim Bala Muhammad which was obtained by the Nigerian Tracker urged the Governor of Yobe State Alhaji Mai Mala Buni to ensure prompt payment of the scholarship.

The letter which was addressed to the governor reads as follows.

‘’With penchant humility to your revered personality and exalted office Sir, I wish to bring a beehive of love and Admiration from Yobe State Students, to the notice of his Excellency.

With your permission sir, I wish to use this rare opportunity once again to bring to your notice the above subject matter.

It can be recalled that almost eight thousand students of Yobe state were unable to receive their 2018/2019 local scholarship bursaries, although this can be tied to their inability to provide accurate information regarding their bank details, this had long been perfected and remedied thereby keeping the affected students in anticipation of getting paid soon.”

Comrade Ibrahim Bala Muhammad said as a result of the current hardship brought upon by the severe effect of COVID-19, the students have been agitating for prompt payment to cushion the drawbacks precipitated by COVID-19.

The Letter by Yobe State Students

The National secretariat of Yobe state students urged the governor of Yobe state to ensure the payment of the scholarship as a bridge between the government and the students.

 

Comrade Bala added that by the prompt payment of the scholarship they hoped to bring an end to the last solution of the quagmire.

The statement further said

“We wish to call upon the scholarship Board and Ministry of higher education to back our campaign for swift payment of subsequent scholarships, especially the 2019 and 2020 which as well may serve as palliatives to the beneficiaries”
