The National Association of resident Doctors Kano State branch said there is no going back on the proposed strike by the National Association of resident Doctors until their demands are fulfilled by the Federal Government.

The President of the association in Kano, Dr. Abubakar Nagoma Usman stated this in a special chat with the Nigerian Tracker

Dr. Abubakar Nagoma said the ultimatum was given to the Federal Government by their association still stands on the 17th of August unless the Government fulfilled some of the promises it made.

He said some of their members that passed away on the line of duty for the past eight months are yet to get a penny as a benefit.

According to the re-known medical Doctor, the Government also refused to implement group life insurance for their members and the non-implementation of the medical residency act and there are promises made by the Government on resident Doctors concerning the revised 2020 budget.

Dr. Abubakar Nagoma cited a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting in Gombe last month as follows, which include the shortage in the supply of personal protective equipment and funding of various tertiary health institutions across the country.

‘’NARD noted the continued shortage of supply of personal protective equipment and funding to various tertiary health institutions. We observed that the Medical Residency Training funding has been included in the revised 2020 budget and has been signed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but the implementation of the funding is yet to commence” said the communiqué.

The communiqué added that,

“NEC noted that payment of COVID-19 hazard inducement allowance was commenced and was abruptly suspended immediately the NARD strike was suspended. The association noted the initial intervention of the House Committee on Insurance in addressing the non-payment/non-enrollment of Resident doctors for Life insurance”

This intervention has also been abandoned. NEC noted, with dismay, non-payment of salary shortfall for 2014-2016 despite promises by several stakeholders to intervene. This was part of the intervention that led to the suspension of the strike action’’

Dr. Abubakar Nagoma said NARD calls on States’ government to implement the Medical Residency Training Act and to ensure adequate remuneration of State health workers.
