From Sani Umar.

The Presidency has called on the Trade Union Congress, TUC, to shelve its planned nationwide protest over alleged President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaction against high-level of corruption recently uncovered.

The appeal is contained In a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

It argues that the proposed protest is needless as the recent alleged cases of corruption in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are all under investigation by both the Executive and Legislative arms of government.

The statement therefore calls on the TUC to sit back and allow the processes undertaken to run their full courses.

It explains that it is against the norm in a democratic society as well as the natural laws of justice to seek punishment against offenders before proper investigation, trial and conviction.

The statement says the President has made it clear that the allegations that have surfaced clearly constitute a breach of trust, and as the investigations take hold and close out, all those found wanting will face the wrath of the law.

It stresses the need for Nigerians to hold the line against tide confronting the country, and lock arms to rid themselves of them.
