Theresa Azibaye ,Nigeria’s Basketball star who plays in the USA

Theresa Azibaye Mac -Dangosu, is a Basketball star born 25 years ago, July 24, 1995, in Port Harcourt the capital of Rivers state.

 

She started playing Basketball at the tender age, in school, and street whenever the opportunity occurs, because its the game she loved and talked about always. With a lot of hard work and frequent practices, she adapted to the challenges and tactics of the game, which she was helped tremendously by her elder sister Juliet, who mentored and introduced her to the court coaches.

 

Her career started professionally, when she played for FCT Angels, whereby she represented FCT Angels in the National Sports Festival (Eko), 2012 in which they got 3rd spot after beating Delta team. She also represented FCT Angels in five seasons of Zenith Bank Female league.

In 2014, Theresa got a scholarship in the US to play at a junior college in America (Miles community college ), where she played for two years. Among the honors, she acclaimed there, includes named amongst the Academic All Regions teams for two consecutive years, named in the all Regional team.

 

Prior to her US scholarship, in 2013, Theresa was in the US for the Ejike Ugboaja Foundation camp held in Atlanta Georgia, but luck didn’t smile at her as she was not selected nor get a school because of an Ankle Injury she had during the camp.

 

After two years at Junior college (Juco), she got Diploma (Associates in Arts degree ), and got an offer from NCAA Division  2 school in Florida Southern College (FSC), where she’s there for a one year and had to leave for another school the University of  Montana Western, an NAIA Division 1, school where she’s finalizing her Bachelor’s degree in English language and a minor in Professional Communication.

 

The extremely talented guard, represented Nigeria in 2018/2019  3×3,  FIBA first African beach games in Cape Verde whereby Nigeria got a bronze medal in 2019, later they went and play in Uganda at FIBA 3×3 nations cup, and this time lost to Uganda in 3rd place battle.

 

Currently, Theresa is playing Basketball with the First Bank of Nigeria team in Lagos.

 

She told  ‘Duniyar Wasanni ‘ an online newspaper, that s  she’s looking to play professionally abroad.

 

“Am done with college ball, so my target is to play professionally overseas, with dedication and passion, is not about fame or money rather its passion “said the guard and pointer.

 

” So yeah, my option is still very much open to European and Asian Basketball market”.
