Kano Farmers Decry Sudden Increase In Fertilizer Price.

As the farming season is gaining ground in some Northwestern states of Nigeria, farmers in Kano have decried a sudden increase in the price of Fertilizer in the state.

Some farmers in the southern parts of Kano who specialized in Rice farming lamented to Nigerian Tracker how the twinkle of an eye price of fertilizer almost doubled its price just a few days back.

A farmer in Marke town of Bunkure local government area of Kano state Yazidu Garba Marke told Nigerian Tracker that for the past month a Urea type fertilizer that costs 6200 Naira is now being sold at 7,000 Naira.

While another brand Indorama sold at five thousand Naira is now sold at 9,500 Naira.

Yazidu further pointed out that another brand of Urea fertilizer had just skyrocketed and now costs 11,000 Naira.

He also cried that Kamfa brand fertilizer hitherto sold at 12,500 Naira now costs 18,000 Naira.

Another farmer from Kano south Malam Dahiru Garba said the rising costs of fertilizer have surprised many subsistence farmers including him.

He told our correspondent that not only the increment of the price, the commodity which is a must for farmers is scarce across major selling outlets in Kano.

Dahiru Garba said farmers are now in serious jeopardy despite governments claim that they should go back to the farm, and less than a month to the commencement of the rainy season there is an increment in the price without due course to due process.

The farmer added that our plantations have started making good yields especially the rice that needs fertilizer, but we don’t know what to do with the scorching price.

They called on the government to adhere to its promise of subsidizing farming commodities especially fertilizer so that they will earn appreciable profit

When contacted the Sarkin Noman Kano Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo could not be reached to hear what efforts he is making to ensure farmers across Kano state did not suffer.
