3 years after ,Kano govt yet to provide house for late Ex-NUJ chair,withholds entitlement.

On the 5th of July 2017, the Chairman of Kano State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Malam Abduljalal Haruna passed away after a protracted illness.

At the time of his death, late Abduljalal Haruna was working with the Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) which is owned by the Kano State Government .

The Late NUJ chairman, left behind 2 wives and nine children. Out of the 9 children, 5 are females, while 4 are male. Some of his daughters were already at the University and have now graduated.

One of the daughters who recently graduated from Bayero University from Department of Education managed to finish her University without the support of her beloved father.

The other daughter Hasiya Abduljalal Haruna is now a level four hundred student in the Department of Arabic of Bayero University.

One of the two widows of the former NUJ chairman and the mother of his nine children Saudat Abduljalal Haruna said life without their beloved Husband and breadwinner has been very challenging but they continue to thank Almighty Allah as some people like the present Kano Commissioner for Information Malam Muhammad Garba has been aiding the family after the demise of Abduljalal Haruna.

She said the Commissioner through his close aides Malam Adamu Abubakar Gamo, is sending them money and foodstuffs every year especially during the Holy month of Ramadan.

She also said that the Commissioner on several occasions settled the children’s school fees.

The late NUJ chairman’s widow added that three of their male children have sat for the unified tertiary matriculation examination and they are about to enter the University or any tertiary institution any moment from now.

One of the male children Yusuf Abduljalal Haruna is now a Diploma holder in Banking and Finance from Kano state Polytechnic.

But one of the family sources said the voucher for the payment of his gratuity was ready but the payment is yet to be effected since his journey to the great beyond three years ago.

During his funeral prayers held at Giginyu Mosque in Nassarawa local government Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who attended the funeral promised to provide a House for the family of late Abduljalal Haruna but the promise is yet to be fulfilled.

Commenting on the issue ,the present Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists ,Kano council Comrade Abbas Ibrahim said late Abduljalal Haruna is a fine gentle man and someone who abhors trouble.

He said the council is making effort to ensure their former colleagues’ entitlements are paid .

Abbas Ibrahim said the council has a representation at Kano State apension Board despite that there are bulk of pensions and gratuities and the council is making effort to ensure its paid.

On the promise of providing a House by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,Comrade Abbas said since there are issues, he is confident the promise will be fulfilled.
