Bauchi Speaker applauds Muslim coalition for complementing government’s fight against COVID-19

Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman (Dangaladiman Ningi) has applauded Bauchi State Coalition on Covid-19 for coming together to join the global fight against the novel corona virus which is ravaging the world.
He was speaking when he received members of the Coalition led by Professor Salisu Shehu/who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Monday.
The Speaker expressed his happiness  how Muslim professionals came together to form the Coalition which he said is commendable and exemplary.
In a statement signed by the spokepersons Hon. Abubakar Suleiman,Abdul Ahmad Burra added that government alone cannot effectively fight the pandemic and its effects without interventions and complementation from different bodies, thus the Coalition comes at a better time.
“Although Bauchi State’s lockdown is mostly partial, the government has already set up 66-man palliative committee under the leadership of His Royal Highness the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Suleiman, to seek and disburse palliatives in order to ease the hardship faced by the citizens of the State due to the effects of the disease.
“Your efforts to educate people on the disease, solicit and disburse palliatives to the people of the State is in tandem with our commitment and that of the Executive Arm to cushion the effects of the pandemic.
On the request of donations from the lawmakers to the Coalition, the Speaker said members of the State Assembly have already keyed into provision of relief packages to their constituents and will contribute to the Coalition for more coverage.
Earlier Speaking the Chairman of the Coalition Professor Salisu Shehu said they visit the Speaker to intimate him and his colleagues on the activities of the Islamic group.
He said they decided to form the Coalition after they envisaged the difficulties people will face during lockdowns and  effects of covid-19, so as to look for donations and contributions of palliative packages in order disburse same to the people.
Professor Shehu explained that so far they have gathered and disbursed palliative packages to one thousand and five hundred households in the State.
He therefore solicited the contribution of the Speaker and all members of Bauchi State House of Assembly  to the Coalition so that more people will be reached.
Explaining how they selected beneficiaries of the palliatives, Director Research and Documentation of the Coalition Dr. Alkali said they used Societal Reconciliation Committees (Zauren Sulhu) and Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to identify, document, scrutinize and select the list of most vulnerable people all over the State.
