<p>A former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has officially defected to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).</p>
<p>The ex-Anambra State governor also declared his readiness to join forces with other Nigerians to resist electoral malpractice during the 2027 general elections.</p>
<p>Mr Obi announced his decision on Wednesday in Enugu State. The decision marked a major political shift barely two years after he contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party.</p>

<p>The former presidential candidate said the move was driven by a desire to build a broad-based coalition focused on rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges.</p>

<p>“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026. we will begin a rescue journey. We will resist rigging of elections by every lawful means in 2027,” he said.</p>
<p>Mr Obi stressed that his decision was based on personal ambition but about the future of the country, noting that credible elections remained central to Nigeria’s democracy and development.</p>
