<p>The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for the immediate suspension of the recently enacted Tax Reform Acts, citing serious concerns over the integrity and transparency of the legislative process that produced them.</p>

<p>“Laws of such far-reaching economic and social significance must emerge from open, accountable, and constitutionally sound procedures,” Osigwe stated. “The current controversies strike at the heart of constitutional governance and democratic lawmaking.”</p>

<p>The NBA warned that implementing the laws amid unresolved disputes would further undermine confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and create damaging legal and policy uncertainty.</p>

<p>“Unclear or disputed laws destabilize the business environment, erode investor confidence, and create unpredictability for all stakeholders,” the statement read. “Such uncertainty is incompatible with the rule of law and detrimental to economic stability.”</p>
<p>The association called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the enactment of the tax reforms. It urged the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and other relevant bodies to address the issues promptly in the interest of constitutional order and economic preservation.</p>
<p>“Until these concerns are fully examined and resolved, implementation of the Tax Reform Acts must be halted,” the NBA affirmed. “Nigeria’s democracy demands that laws—especially those with profound impacts—are created through processes that are beyond reproach.”</p>
<p>The statement concluded by warning that failure to uphold these standards would weaken public trust and the foundations of lawful governance.</p>
