<p>The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday , December 25th, Friday , December 26th, and Thursday, January 1st, 2026, as public holidays for the observance of Christmas, Boxing Day, and the New Year.</p>
<p>The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement today in Abuja through a statement issued by the Ministry&#8217;s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.</p>

<p>In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended festive greetings to Christians in Nigeria and around the globe, as well as to all Nigerians. He called upon Christians to embody the core virtues of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice demonstrated by the birth of Jesus Christ, noting these values are fundamental to fostering national unity, tolerance, and social harmony.</p>
<p>The Minister further encouraged all citizens to utilize this festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, security, and progress. He emphasized the importance of supporting government initiatives aimed at national development and social cohesion.</p>

<p>“The Christmas season and the New Year presents an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity, show compassion to one another, and renew our collective commitment to nation-building,&#8221; the Minister stated.</p>
<p>Dr. Tunji-Ojo also advised citizens to celebrate responsibly by adhering to the law, maintaining security awareness, and cooperating fully with security agencies to ensure a peaceful holiday period for all.</p>
<p>He concluded by wishing every Nigerian a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.</p>
