<p>Former members of the Kano State House of Assembly have firmly denied a circulating media report claiming that they endorsed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State.</p>
<p>Speaking to journalists shortly after the misleading report surfaced, one of the former lawmakers who requested anonymity clarified that the publication was completely false and did not reflect the purpose of their recent meeting with Senator Barau.</p>
<p>According to him, “Senator Barau only invited us for a meeting, and as one of the key stakeholders of the APC in Kano, we felt it was appropriate to honor his invitation. <p>He further expressed shock over the fabricated report, stating, “We were genuinely surprised when we saw the publication alleging that we endorsed Senator Barau for the 2027 governorship election. It is completely untrue.”</p>

<p>Another former lawmaker who attended the meeting also condemned the report, saying, “The story making rounds is misleading and irresponsible. We never discussed endorsing anyone. Our focus was on party unity and strengthening the APC ahead of 2027.</p>

<p>It is unfortunate that some individuals are trying to create unnecessary tension by spreading false information. The APC has clear procedures for selecting its flag bearer, and we remain committed to supporting whoever emerges through the party’s democratic process.”</p>
<p>“We attended the meeting out of respect and commitment to the party, not to endorse any aspirant. People should stop twisting narratives for personal interests.</p>
<p>This misleading report nearly caused unnecessary tension among us who attended the meeting, prompting us to schedule an emergency meeting tomorrow to address the matter. “The report is unfortunate and nearly caused avoidable tension. That is why we have convened another meeting to clarify the issue,” he said.</p>
<p>He stressed that no endorsement was made for Senator Barau or any other aspirant, noting that the APC has several interested contenders for the governorship seat.</p>
<p>“As party stakeholders, we will attend meetings with any aspirant who invites us. The party has its own procedures for selecting its candidate, and whoever emerges will receive our full support,” he added.</p>
<p>They collectively called on members of the APC and the general public to disregard the circulating report, describing it as baseless and lacking any element of truth.</p>
