<p>Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the North have endorsed former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman ahead of the party’s convention slated for November in Ibadan, Oyo State.</p>
<p>Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who made the announcement after a meeting of Northern PDP leaders in Abuja on Wednesday night, declared Turaki as the consensus candidate, noting that any aspirant unsatisfied with the decision is free to contest.</p>
<p>Before the announcement today, among those locked in a keen contest for the chairmanship position are former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, ex-Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and Turaki.</p>

<p>Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, FCIArb, FABS, FCIDA, FPIN, FIICA, HCILRM (Dan Masanin Gwandu, Zarumman Kabbi) was born on the 3rd April, 1957. Kabiru was born at the Nassarawa Area of Nassarawa 1 Ward, Birnin Kebbi Town in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State to the family of Alhaji Tanimu and Hajiya Amina.</p>

<p>Despite the Federal High Court in Abuja scheduling October 31 to rule on whether the convention should proceed, the party has continued its preparations. Present at the meeting were Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara). Others included former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Governors Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna) and Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), Professor Jerry Gana, and members of the National Working Committee from the North led by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.</p>
