<p>The ancient city of Kano is set to host the 8th edition of the Kano Indigenous Languages of Africa Film Market and Festival (KILAF) from November 6 to 8, 2025, under the theme “Crossing Storytelling Boundaries: Strategies for Multilingual Success in African Filmmaking.”</p>
<p>Speaking at a press briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano, Abdulkareem Muhammad, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Moving Image Limited, said the festival has become a major platform for promoting African storytelling and cultural diversity.</p>

<p>He revealed that this year’s edition would once again be accompanied by an international conference organized in collaboration with Bayero University, Kano’s Faculty of Communication, with selected academic papers from the conference to be published as part of the festival’s annual knowledge series.</p>

<p>Muhammad disclosed that KILAF 2025 received 616 film submissions from 77 countries across various genres, including short films, features, documentaries, student films, and animation. Out of these entries, 85 films from 30 countries made it to the final selection list, with Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, and Tunisia topping the chart of entries.</p>
<p>He added that the official jury nominations feature 14 nations, with some films co-produced in partnership with the United Kingdom, United States, Israel, and Italy. “There are 18 award categories representing 18 winners out of 87 nominations. However, every nominee is already a winner due to the rigorous and transparent selection process,” Muhammad stated.</p>
<p>As part of its inclusive programming, the CEO announced that KILAF will also host the second edition of the Entrepreneurship Summit for Women in Media Business, scheduled for November 8 at the Dangote Business School, Bayero University, Kano.</p>
<p>The summit, targeting 100 female participants, aims to empower women in media entrepreneurship and will feature delegates from NAWOJ, NCWS, Women in Media, and Stand Up for Women’s Rights.</p>
<p>In addition, Muhammad introduced a new component of the festival the<br />
KILAF-SUG Carnival which will hold on November 8 at Adamu Mu’azu Mini Stadium, Bayero University, New Site The event will feature cultural parades, fashion exhibitions, durbar, and musical performances aimed at showcasing Africa’s vibrant cultural heritage.</p>
<p>The festival’s 3-day program, attached outlines a lineup of screenings, conferences, exhibitions, and award ceremonies. Muhammad expressed optimism that the KILAF 2025 edition will further consolidate Kano’s reputation as a hub of African film, culture, and multilingual storytelling.</p>
