<p>Today, Joash Ojo Amupitan, the nominated INEC Chairman, had a meeting with Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser on Senate Matters to President Tinubu, prior to his screening for the position of INEC Chairman, which is set to take place tomorrow.</p>
<p>President Tinubu had sent a formal request to the senate on the 14th of October, 2025, urging them to have the professor Joash Ojo Amupitan screened and confirmed for the position of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) following the terminal leave of the former Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. Tinubu’s request was transmitted through a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.</p>
<p>“In accordance with the provisions of section 154 subsection 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),&#8221; Tinubu said.</p>

<p>The screening scheduled for tomorrow was made known by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary Research and Information at the National Assembly, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah:</p>
<p>&#8220;The Office of the Secretary Research and Information wishes to notify members of the Press and the general public that the Senate will, tomorrow, Thursday, 16th October, 2025, conduct the screening of the nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR , Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),&#8221; part of the report reads.</p>
<p>The nominated INEC Chairman, Prof. Amupitan, had, on the 9th of October, 2025, been nominated by president Tinubu during the Council of State meeting.</p>
