<p>In a bitter reaction to the president&#8217;s pardon on Maryam Sanda, whom was sentenced to death by hanging for murdering her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, the deceased family outrightly rejected the prerogative of mercy of the president on the culprit; noting that such exercise of power resuscitates inexorable pain of the loss of their son. This was contained in a statement released by the deceased family today, 14th October, 2025, and signed by Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed:</p>
<p>&#8220;This latest turn of events, coming just a few years after the dastardly crime that cruelly cut short Bilyaminu&#8217;s life has, however, expectedly reopened our healing wounds,&#8221; the statement reads.</p>
<p>It continues, &#8220;to have Maryam Sanda walk the face of the earth again, free from any blemish for her heinous crime as if she had merely squashed an ant, is the worst possible injustice any family could be made to go through for a loved one.&#8221;</p>

<p>The family also disclosed that the said children that are being used as an excuse for granting the culprit a pardon had, at a time in the past, been denied the experience of father-children bond by the same Maryam:</p>

<p>&#8220;Maryam, let&#8217;s not forget, had earlier on denied the same children now used to elicit sympathy and secure her release, the opportunity to know what a father&#8217;s love and care means.&#8221;</p>
<p>The family, while recounting their loss, concludes that their resolution is to leave the case to God Almighty who will serve justice on the day of reckoning where no one will be at the liberty to intercede for anyone.</p>
<p>The president had, on 11th of October, 2025, granted clemency on 174 others and Maryam Sanda, whom was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging by the FCT High Court on the 27th of January, 2020.</p>
<p>The presidential decision has provoked widespread outrage, particularly because of the high-profile nature of the case, which had symbolised justice for victims of domestic violence.</p>
