This was disclosed during a multi-sector stakeholder engagement in Kano, which brought together representatives of professional bodies, business leaders, informal sector groups, women in business, persons with disabilities, as well as traditional and religious institutions.

According to Alhaji Muhammed Abba Aliyu, the Executive Director, Compliance and Enforcement at KIRS, while speaking during the session emphasize KIRS plan to increase tax base. According to him “the projection is anchored on a new tax framework that prioritises fairness and efficiency.” He explained that the revised structure would focus on income tax from employment and business activities, service charges for public amenities, and penalties for legal infractions, thereby reinforcing the social contract between citizens and the state.

A representative of PACE, Alhassan Usman, stressed the transformative role of digital reforms, urging taxpayers to move away from cash-based transactions and embrace secure, traceable digital payments.
