Every new regime comes with a new slogan, and an associated dream goal, achievable or not. The capitalist orientation of Tinubu’s administration has not been precedented in Nigeria. Not even by IBB in the nineties. That probably was the main reason behind its resolve to create a trillion dollar economy by the end of this decade. And that is what defines “The Renewed Hope Agenda” which according to the man in charge “is a commitment to unleash the country’s full economic potential by focusing on job creation, access to capital for small and large businesses, inclusiveness, the rule of law, and the fight against hunger, poverty and corruption”

1. Will I graduate from minimum wage to the ‘living wage ‘ promised by the president in his early days in office?

2. Will I see improved service delivery efficiency in both public and private sector agencies, organisations and institutions?

3. Will I be securely free to move through all nooks and crannies of the country without fear of molestations and intimidation on my person and property?

4. Will I be assured of quality life in terms of health care, food and nutrition, education, housing, transportation and other essentials of wellbeing?

5. Will my children’s, and even grand children’s life aspirations be guaranteed of attainment according to the efforts they put in their pursuit; and not based on who subsequently becomes their godfather or guardian angel?

6. Will I be assured of stability in governance, and a peace of mind to trust the leadership to deliver on constitutional responsibilities diligently?

7. Will I be able to trust the government on the fact that a trillion dollar economy is not a ploy to handover the country’s wealth to big corporations and the bankers’ club?

8. What will be the place of the main domain of the majority of the ordinary citizens’ economy – agriculture? I mean policy and operational wise. It also generates lots of “positive spillover”, you know.

9. Will there be timelines and indicators for me to measure progress and impact of a trillion dollar economy on my person and family?

There could be item number 10, 11, 12 etc for different individuals. I however feel I may be satisfied with positive outcomes on these nine before I shout Hurray!
