European-American University has issued a strong public statement condemning a fraudulent event held at NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, which falsely claimed to be an official university convocation. The institution clarified that it had no involvement in the event and did not authorize any such gathering.

According to the University, reports circulating in the Nigerian press suggesting that honorary doctorate degrees were conferred upon several individuals—including popular musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara, Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr., Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa, and Tarela Boroh—are entirely false. The University emphasized that none of these individuals are listed in its official Register of Graduates and have no legitimate affiliation with the institution.

The statement further discredits claims made by Musari Audu Isyaku, who was referred to as the “Northern Nigeria representative of the institution.” The University confirmed that Isyaku holds no such position and has no authority to act on its behalf.

Similarly, Idris Aliyu was named in the press as a member of the University’s Governing Council and a representative of the Vice Chancellor. European-American University clarified that it does not have a Governing Council and that Aliyu’s previous appointment as a Fellow with professorial status in Financial Management has been revoked immediately due to his involvement in the fraudulent event.

The University also reiterated that Dr. Mrs. Josephine Egbuta, its former Vice-Chancellor, was dismissed earlier this year and is no longer authorized to represent the institution in any capacity. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Luca Scotto di Tella de’ Douglas di Castel di Ripa.

In response to claims that the University operates in Dominica and Panama, the institution clarified that these references are outdated. It is currently established as a nonprofit private university in France and holds a Royal Charter of Incorporation from the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara in Uganda.

European-American University announced its intention to contact Nigerian legal authorities to investigate and halt the issuance of fake certificates. The University stated that those responsible for the deception should face legal consequences for misrepresentation and fraud.

This incident serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of verifying academic credentials and the dangers of impersonating legitimate institutions. The University urges the public to consult its official channels for accurate information and to remain vigilant against fraudulent academic claims.
