The commissioner outlined several reforms introduced by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf aimed at enhancing transparency and prudent management of public resources. These reforms include enforcing the Kano State Public Procurement Law of 2021, instituting periodic procurement audits, and digitalizing procurement and project monitoring systems through the Kano State Integrated Monitoring System (KSIMS), currently nearing completion. These measures are designed to ensure value for money, improve project delivery, and build public confidence in government operations .

Comrade Waiya detailed key achievements of the Ministry of Public Procurement and Project Monitoring, such as mandatory public advertisement and opening of tenders, vetting of payment certificates, and developing standardized bidding documents. The government has also initiated monthly project evaluations across local government areas, capacity-building workshops for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and community engagement programs to involve citizens in monitoring government projects. These initiatives reflect the administration’s commitment to integrity and citizen-centered governance.

On financial management, the commissioner assured that all transactions from the Office of the Accountant General are conducted independently without interference or kickbacks, contrasting with practices during the previous administration. The Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has also been empowered to operate free from political interference, underscoring Kano State’s resolve to uphold fiscal discipline and combat corruption.

To enhance public awareness, the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs publishes details of all approved projects and budget allocations on social media and conventional media platforms immediately after State Executive Council meetings. This practice enables citizens to follow up on government spending and project implementation within their communities, fostering transparency and accountability at grassroots levels.

Waiya said through these strategic actions and reforms, Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is laying strong foundations for good governance based on transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management, ensuring public funds are used responsibly for sustainable development and the collective good of the people
