<p>According to resolutions reached during a strategic meeting held Monday at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, a minimum of 20 volunteers equipped with Android phones will be deployed in each ward, with numbers adjusted based on the size of polling units. The meeting brought together the Kano State Mobilization Taskforce on Voter Registration and the Chairmen of all 44 local government councils to coordinate efforts and ensure comprehensive coverage.</p>
<p>The volunteers—selected from their respective communities and including female participants—will undergo training on the online registration process before commencing operations. They will also be responsible for cascading the training to other volunteers at the polling unit level, ensuring a multiplier effect for greater outreach.</p>
<p>Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Chairman of the Taskforce and Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, emphasized the importance of synergy between local government leadership and the Taskforce. He noted that Kano’s previous participation in the online registration exercise was disproportionately low despite being Nigeria’s most populous state—a trend he described as a wake-up call.</p>

<p>“This is not just a technical exercise; it’s a civic responsibility,” Waiya said, urging council chairmen to intensify public sensitization efforts. He reaffirmed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to supporting the logistics-heavy initiative, stressing that the administration views voter registration as a cornerstone of democratic governance.</p>

<p>Alhaji Muhammad Tajo Othman Zaura, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, echoed the call for increased mobilization, urging council chairmen to treat the exercise with urgency and dedication.</p>
<p>The chairman of Nasarawa Local Government and ALGON Vice Chairperson, Alhaji Yusuf Imam Ogan Boye, pledged the full cooperation of local government leaders to ensure the success of the registration drive.</p>
<p>In a follow-up meeting at the Coronation Hall of Government House, the Taskforce engaged with 484 councillors to solicit their support. Comrade Waiya reiterated the importance of their role in community mobilization, while Alhaji Bashir Achika, Chairman of the Councillors Forum, described the exercise as pivotal to the integrity of the electoral process and affirmed their readiness to contribute meaningfully.</p>
<p>In a statement signed by Usman Bello said the initiative marks a significant step in Kano State’s efforts to strengthen democratic participation and ensure that eligible citizens are registered ahead of upcoming elections.</p>
