The Coalition of APC Youth Group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action to ensure the full operationalization of the newly established Northwest Development Commission (NWDC).

The bill establishing the commission, sponsored by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, was passed by the Senate and assented to by President Tinubu a year ago. However, the commission is yet to commence full operations.

In a statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Hon. Sadiq Ali Sango, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna, the youths stressed that the success of President Tinubu in the Northwest is closely tied to the success of the commission.
According to Sango “The Northwest people see this commission as a game changer in tackling the region’s challenges. Its mandate covers critical areas such as security, healthcare, agriculture, education, youth and women empowerment, among others. If the commission fails, Tinubu may likely lose the trust of the people in the next election.”

Hon. Sango lamented that while other regional development commissions, especially in the South, are already working and delivering dividends of democracy to their people, the Northwest remains stagnant.

“It is so pathetic that other regional commissions are active while ours is yet to take off. If things continue like this, people’s hopes will be dashed and they will be left with no option but to vote out President Tinubu in the next election,” he warned.

The group alleged that certain governors are unhappy with the establishment of the NWDC and are working to sabotage its progress. Adding that “Those sabotaging the commission are indirectly sabotaging President Tinubu.”

While commending President Tinubu and Senator Barau for their commitment to the Northwest and the country at large, the group urged the President to take immediate steps to address the obstacles delaying the commission’s work.
