<p>In a move to curb political thuggery and restore peace among Kano’s youth, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially launched the Kano Safe Corridor Project, a transformative initiative aimed at rehabilitating young political agitators. The program, originally conceived by former Commissioner of Police Gumel, has already seen 718 repentant youths pledge to abandon political violence and embrace reform.</p>
<p>The announcement was made during a strategic interface meeting held at the Ministry of Tranports Conference Hall in Goron Dutse. The meeting brought together cluster leaders of the repentant youth influencers, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in Kano’s efforts to promote peace and youth empowerment.</p>

<p>State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, emphasized the non-political nature of the initiative. “You are all sons of Kano,” he declared, urging the youth to seize the opportunity to reform. Waiya acknowledged that while some of the youths had engaged in thuggery unintentionally, others now seek capital to start small businesses or require rehabilitation support from agencies like the NDLEA.</p>

<p>He also addressed recent reports of renewed conflict, warning that Kano’s reputation as the home of Nigeria’s richest man must not be tarnished by violence. “Time is not on your side,” Waiya cautioned. “You must reform and repent.”</p>
<p>In a powerful moment during the meeting, the commissioner asked the youth directly if they had resolved to abandon conflict. Their resounding “yes” marked a hopeful turning point.</p>

<p>Sarkin Shanun Kano, Shehu Muhammad, welcomed attendees with a heartfelt message, calling the gathering “an important one that affects not only Kano but Nigeria at large.” He lamented the persistence of thuggery in Kano, contrasting it with the global achievements of youth from other regions.</p>
<p>Kano elder Alhaji Gidado Mukhtar praised Governor Yusuf’s initiative, likening it to the inclusive leadership of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero. “You are all our sons and daughters,” Mukhtar said, reinforcing the communal spirit behind the project.</p>

<p>The Safe Corridor Project is designed to provide mentorship, economic support, and rehabilitation services to youth who have renounced political violence. With strong backing from traditional leaders, government officials, and community elders, the initiative aims to transform Kano’s youth into ambassadors of peace and progress.</p>
<p>As the project gains momentum, it stands as a model for other states grappling with youth unrest and political manipulation. The message from Kano is clear: reconciliation, reform, and reintegration are not just possible they are already underway.</p>
