The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kano State Chapter, has urged parents to continue feeding their children with brown rice and other nutritious foods to support healthy growth and development.

The call was made by the Chairman of the Kano State Chapter of NAPPS, Alhaji Imam Ahmad Zubairu Galadanchi, MNI, during a statewide meeting held at Mubayya House in Kano.

Alhaji Imam Ahmad Zubairu Galadanchi explained the numerous health benefits of consuming Parboiled Unpolished Rice (PUR), commonly known as Brown Rice. He emphasized that:

Disease Prevention: The high fiber content helps regulate blood sugar, reduces the risk of diabetes, and lowers cholesterol levels.

The chairman also spoke about the additional value of Fortified Parboiled Unpolished Rice (FPUR), which combines the natural advantages of brown rice with added micronutrients like iron, zinc, folic acid, and B-vitamins. These added nutrients help tackle widespread micronutrient deficiencies and improve public health outcomes by:

Reducing the prevalence of anemia

Boosting immune system function

Supporting cognitive and physical development in children

On the economic front, Alhaji Galadanchi noted that the consumption of FPUR also supports:

Increased productivity

Reduced healthcare costs

Sustainable agriculture through the promotion of whole grains

New economic opportunities in the agricultural and food sectors

He emphasized that global research has recognized both PUR and FPUR as ideal components in school feeding programs, contributing to nutritional security and addressing public health challenges.

Earlier in the event, Professor David Day, Managing Consultant and Representative of Masha Malaysia University, also addressed participants on behalf of First Bank and other collaborating organizations.

Professor Day noted that Masha Malaysia University is committed to producing health-conscious graduates trained in modern medicine, disease prevention, and public health care through a holistic education model that includes knowledge, attitude, skill, experience, and exposure.

He encouraged parents to enroll their children in institutions like Masha Malaysia University, assuring them of uninterrupted education, with no strikes, and a high standard of academic excellence. He commended NAPPS Kano State Chapter for organizing the one-day sensitization workshop and for their continued commitment to improving education and public awareness.
