The Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, has lashed out at opposition parties in the state, accusing them of lacking the moral standing to question the achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

Addressing journalists in Kano, Dungurawa dismissed recent criticisms targeting the government’s performance in education, health, and infrastructure, describing them as politically motivated attacks by parties that left the state worse off after holding power for eight years.

“We thank them for acknowledging that we are active. But the truth is, they left behind no meaningful legacy. They squandered eight years and focused on projects that had no bearing on the real needs of the people,” Dungurawa said.

He cited the Dangi underpass as a symbol of the previous administration’s misplaced priorities. “That project had no purpose. There was no traffic issue there. It’s just a monument of concrete—no real utility,” he added.

Dungurawa praised the NNPP-led government for what he called “strategic and people-oriented investments,” noting that major roads have been rehabilitated, traffic infrastructure modernized, and streetlights restored across the state.

“Today, you won’t find potholes on major roads in Kano. We have functional streetlights, new gantries, and clear markings. This is what responsive governance looks like,” he said.

He also touted the state government’s progress in settling pension arrears, stating that over N27 billion had been paid out of the N48 billion inherited from the past administration.

“We’re paying off these debts without noise. That’s leadership,” he said.

Dungurawa further accused the opposition of lacking internal cohesion and grassroots support, especially the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as “bouncing out of relevance.”

“Even in their own homes, some of them don’t have support. The PDP is fragmented and self-serving,” he noted.
