<p>A few days ago, the former minister of information said steps are being taken to bring Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, back into the party.</p>
<p>Obi, the former governor of Anambra, resigned from the PDP on May 25, 2022, ahead of the 2023 elections.</p>

<p>On May 27, 2022, Obi joined the LP, where he became the standard-bearer and contested the 2023 presidential election.</p>

<p>Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, on Wednesday, Gana said the PDP’s platform is now “so good, fascinating, and real” that some potential opponents might choose to remain silent rather than challenge it in the 2027 presidential election.</p>
<p>He also reiterated that efforts are still on to woo the former governor of Anambra, who is currently on the radar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), back into the party.</p>
<p>“The PDP is on the ground. I’m a researcher, and I research opinions. In the northern states, Peter Obi under the PDP will defeat any candidate because our people are very fair-minded and just,” Gana said.</p>
<p>“We are reaching out to Peter Obi. Because I’m leading a search team and there are many brilliant people, Peter may be good, but we have somebody better. So, we are searching,” he said.</p>
<p>Gana also said the opposition party made a mistake about the circumstances that led to Obi’s exit from the PDP.</p>
<p>“We made a mistake in 2023. If I were Atiku, I would say, ‘Peter, it is now your turn; I would give you a vice-president,’ but he didn’t,” he said.</p>
<p>Nigerian Tracker reports that professor Jerry Ghana was minister of information during the regime of Late General Sani Abacha and the first tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.</p>
<p>He also led MAMSER under General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.</p>
