Some of the 27 candidates who contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 federal and state assemblies in Kano State have officially announced their defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The declaration was made during a press conference held in Kano, where the candidates, under the leadership of Hon. AbdulRahman M. Salga, addressed journalists on their reasons for leaving the PDP.

Hon. AbdulRahman Salga, a former chairman of the PDP One Family group and 2023 PDP candidate for the Dala Federal Constituency, stated that the decision to defect came after thorough consultation with supporters, political associates, and family members.

“We took this step after engaging with our followers, relatives, and friends, who also expressed disappointment with the ongoing crises in the PDP,” Salga said. “It is clear to us that certain individuals have turned the party into a personal enterprise, prioritizing self-interest over collective progress.”

He further explained that persistent internal conflicts and factionalism within the PDP have made it impossible for genuine politicians to thrive and serve the people. According to him, these issues have forced them to seek a new political home that aligns with their ideals and vision for development.

“Our political journey is about providing meaningful solutions to the problems facing our people, especially the common man,” Salga noted. “After careful consideration, we, as candidates, decided to move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where we can pursue our goals without hindrance.”

Speaking on behalf of other defectors, another member of the group, Mainasara, emphasized that the ADC offers a platform free from manipulation and allows members to pursue politics based on vision, integrity, and service to the people.

“Our return to the ADC marks the beginning of a new chapter where we will conduct our political activities with ambition, freedom, and a commitment to solving the challenges facing the people of Kano and Nigeria at large,” Mainasara said.

He added that preparations are underway for a major political rally in Kano State to welcome the new members into the ADC and to officially launch their movement within the party structure.

The defection of the candidates is seen as a major blow to the PDP in Kano, especially as political realignments intensify ahead of future elections in the state.
