<p>This announcement was contained in a statement personally signed by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Monday, July 14, 2025.</p>
<p>According to Governor Radda, the Forum received the news of President Buhari’s death with “shock and deep sorrow,” describing the late former leader as “our father, our leader, and the pride of the Northwest region.”</p>
<p>“On behalf of the Northwest Governors Forum and the entire people of the Northwest region, I extend our heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the immediate family of the late President, the Government and people of Katsina State, and indeed all Nigerians who mourn this irreplaceable loss,” the statement read.</p>

<p>Governor Radda further described Buhari as a man of &#8220;service, integrity, and sacrifice,&#8221; whose legacy transcended regional boundaries and symbolised national unity and discipline.</p>

<p>“In recognition of his immense contributions to the region and the nation, the Northwest Governors Forum has unanimously agreed to declare Tuesday, July 15, as a public holiday in all Northwest states. This is a mark of honour and respect for our departed elder statesman,” Governor Radda announced.</p>
<p>He also confirmed that the remains of the late former President would arrive in Katsina on Tuesday by 12:00 PM, with the burial ceremony scheduled for 2:00 PM in Daura, Buhari’s hometown.</p>
<p>“We call on all Nigerians to join us in prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul,” Radda urged, adding, “May Allah (SWT) grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family, friends, and all Nigerians the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”</p>
<p>President Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State between 1983 and 1985 and as a two-term civilian President from 2015 to 2023, died on Sunday at a London hospital after a brief illness. His passing has continued to elicit national mourning and tributes from within and beyond Nigeria.</p>
