<p>The Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) and AUSAM Communications Ltd, has organized a four-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing the communication skills of Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs).</p><div class="X97n0vLF" style="clear:both;float:left;width:100%;margin:0 0 20px 0;"><script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>

<p>With the theme “Updating Basic Mass Communication Skills to Enhance Government Communication,” the workshop seeks to empower government-affiliated reporters with modern communication tools to effectively share accurate information and combat the spread of misinformation.</p>
<p>A total of 132 participants are taking part in the training, including 17 official reporters and 61 special reporters drawn from various ministries, departments, and agencies across the state.</p>
<p>Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Bala Adamu Muhammad, described the training as both timely and critical. He emphasized the vital role of SSRs and SRs in conveying credible and accurate information to the public, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained to their reporting duties.</p>

<p>Director of the IIJ, Dr. Emman Usman Shehu, commended the partnership with the Kano State Government, stressing the importance of continuous training in the face of rising misinformation.</p>

<p>“In today’s information age, equipping reporters with the skills to identify and counter fake news is essential,” he said. “This training is designed to provide practical tools that will enable participants to improve the quality and effectiveness of government communication.”</p>
<p>Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event, the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to using information dissemination as a foundation for education and development.</p>
<p>“An informed citizenry is vital to democracy and economic growth,” he said. “This administration sees communication not just as a tool, but as a bridge between the government and the people.”</p>
<p>Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in his closing remarks, highlighted the importance of modernizing government communication to foster greater transparency and public engagement.</p>
<p>“This workshop is part of our broader strategy to improve how government activities are reported and to ensure our messaging is strategic, inclusive, and responsive,” Waiya said.</p>
<p>The workshop included lectures and hands-on sessions led by mass communication experts from Bayero University, Kano (BUK), offering participants updated techniques in reporting and digital communication.</p>
