<p>The gruesome murder of innocent travellers from Basawa Zaria in the Mangu area of Plateau State is highly uncalled for and totally unacceptable. Hence, serious action and punishment must be taken to serve as a deterrent to future occurrences. This evil and wicked act has been happening for a long time, particularly within that axis, and the inadequacy of proper interrogation, prosecution, and punishment against the culprits is actually and precisely the motivating factor that allows the menace to repeat itself to the extent that the perpetrators are simply and willingly carrying out the damages with pride and with no fear or apprehension of punishment because the deserving punishment is rarely attached to such proven killings. (The assassination of Major General Ibrahim Alkali within the same axis, as well as the massive killing of Kano people in Edo State, are two clear pieces of evidence.)</p>
<p>The recent killing was believed to have been carried out deliberately with a hidden mission because the vehicle carrying the victims belonged to ABU (Ahmadu Bello University) Zaria, with the university’s inscription and an official FG plate number on it. However, with all sorts of modesty, transparency of the passengers (including women and children), as well as the weight of immunity the vehicle carried, yet the perpetrators went the extra mile and brutally killed the victims, including women and children. **WHAT A BRUTAL ACT IS THIS?** These people need to know the extent and danger this unwholesome act could bring. Indeed, it was truly a cruel, mischievous, and malicious act that could easily jeopardize the peace and unity among citizens. These people ought to remember that their kinsmen are everywhere within various states of the federation, doing their normal businesses, moving around freely, peacefully hosted and accommodated with kindness and generosity, rather than their repulsive hostilities against their fellow citizens. Even in Zaria, where these victims came from, there is a big area called Unguwar Mangu where the inhabitants are predominantly from Mangu and some parts of Plateau State, and for more than 40 years, they have been living quietly and peacefully, enjoying many rights and privileges—most importantly, security and welfare—by the government and good people of Zaria.</p>

<p>Imagine, how could the same community that always and ever receives utmost consideration in some parts of the country equally reciprocate the good gesture—HOSPITALITY—with dreadful HOSTILITY? This is RIDICULOUS! <p>It is high time that the government and concerned authorities, especially the National Assembly and the conjoined State Assemblies, act decisively and make laws to curtail and restrain these barbaric acts of killing innocent travellers across the country. I really commend the effort of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for making it clear that these killings will never be allowed to go unchecked and that the perpetrators must be brought to book and justice must be served accordingly.</p>

<p>With sincerity and clear action taken by the government and authorities concerned, we witnessed how these evil acts were firmly tackled along the Kaduna–Abuja highway during the previous administration.</p>
<p>Finally, people need to be aware that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allows all citizens the liberty of free movement, entry, and exit within the geographical boundaries of the country without any discrimination, humiliation, or hostility. This will surely bring peace, unity, harmony, tranquility, progress, cohesion, and national development.</p>
