<p>According to a statement issued on Saturday, June 15, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the &#8220;latest news of wanton killings&#8221; in Benue, describing the bloodshed as &#8220;inhuman and anti-progress.&#8221;</p>
<p>“In the wake of renewed attacks that have claimed many lives, I have directed the security agencies to act decisively and arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict and prosecute them,” President Tinubu stated.</p>
<p>On the president’s directive, top-ranking officers from Nigeria’s intelligence community, police, and military have been deployed to Benue State to coordinate security operations and restore law and order. The move is intended to stem the cycle of violence between farming communities, herders, and local militias.</p>

<p>President Tinubu further tasked Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia with initiating and leading reconciliation efforts. The president emphasized the need for constructive dialogue between the warring parties to bring an end to the protracted crisis that has destabilized rural areas of the state.</p>

<p>“This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue,” Tinubu said. “Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders across divides work together in harmony and differences are addressed with fairness, openness and justice.”</p>
<p>The president also issued a stern warning to political and community leaders in the conflict-prone areas, urging them to desist from making inflammatory remarks capable of fuelling further violence.</p>
<p>“Political and community leaders in Benue State must act responsibly and avoid inflammatory utterances that could further increase tensions and killings,” Tinubu warned. “They should also rein in those who go out to cause provocations and ignite reprisal attacks.”</p>
<p>President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to ending insecurity across the country, adding that sustainable peace in Benue is achievable through coordinated efforts, genuine reconciliation, and mutual respect among communities.</p>
