<p>The inauguration ceremony, held at the institution&#8217;s main campus in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was attended by past and present alumni members, school officials, students, and dignitaries from the media and academic circles.</p>
<p>The appointment of Alhaji Soaga, a veteran broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), marks a significant moment for the alumni body, which is looking to harness his vast experience in public communication, national engagement, and media advocacy to uplift the association’s visibility and impact.</p>
<p>Speaking at the event, Soaga expressed deep gratitude to the association for entrusting him with the responsibility of leadership. &#8220;This is a homecoming for me, not just to an institution that shaped my early career, but to a family of proud alumni dedicated to the growth of MAPOLY and Nigeria as a whole,&#8221; he said.</p>

<p>Soaga’s career in journalism spans decades. He served as NTA’s National Assembly correspondent from 1999 to 2003, where he played a frontline role in reporting Nigeria’s nascent Fourth Republic. Notably, he covered the historic 2003 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries that led to the re-election of President Olusegun Obasanjo, demonstrating his deep commitment to credible political reporting.</p>

<p>Alhaji Soaga pledged to reposition the alumni association through strategic partnerships, increased engagement with current students, and development initiatives for the polytechnic. &#8220;We must bridge the gap between our past and the future. Alumni associations should not only celebrate legacies but build platforms for innovation and mentorship,&#8221; he stated.</p>
<p>In his remarks, the Rector of MAPOLY, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, congratulated Soaga and described his election as a step in the right direction. “Alhaji Soaga is a man of character and competence. His wealth of experience will bring a new era of excellence and collaboration to the MAPOLY Alumni Association,” the Rector said.</p>
<p>Other alumni members and speakers at the ceremony echoed similar sentiments, commending Soaga’s service to the nation and his passion for education, leadership, and youth development.</p>
<p>The newly inaugurated executive committee under Soaga&#8217;s leadership is expected to hit the ground running with programs aimed at enhancing alumni participation, infrastructural support for the school, and creating career-building opportunities for students and recent graduates.</p>
