<p>Justice Muhammad Uwais retired as Chief Justice of Nigeria on June 12th 2006 after attaining the mandatory age of 70 years.</p>
<p>He is the first Nigerian chief Justice that administer the oath of office to General Abdulsalami Abubakar ,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 and 2003.</p>
<p>He joined the Supreme court in 1979 before becoming the chief Justice of Nigeria in 1995 holding the position for 11 years.</p>
<p>Late Justice Muhammad Lawal Uwais was born on June 12th 1936.</p>
