<p>Gawuna&#8217;s resumption follows his swearing-in on Monday by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, in Abuja. The ceremony was part of the federal government’s renewed efforts to strengthen key institutions responsible for driving housing delivery and mortgage financing in the country.</p>
<p>Speaking shortly after taking charge, Dr. Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding him worthy of the appointment and pledged to work diligently in advancing the bank’s mission of providing affordable housing to Nigerians through accessible and sustainable mortgage financing.</p>
<p>“I am deeply honoured by this opportunity to serve the nation in this capacity,” Gawuna said. “Housing is a fundamental need, and I will work with all stakeholders to ensure that the Federal Mortgage Bank lives up to its responsibility of supporting low- and middle-income earners to own their homes.”</p>

<p>Dr. Gawuna brings to the role decades of public service experience, having served as Deputy Governor of Kano State under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also held the portfolio of Commissioner for Agriculture, where he was known for implementing various developmental programmes in the state’s agricultural sector.</p>

<p>Minister Dangiwa, during the swearing-in, charged Gawuna and other board members to operate with transparency, integrity, and commitment to the bank’s objectives. He emphasized the need for improved service delivery and stakeholder engagement to meet the growing demand for housing in Nigeria.</p>
<p>The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria plays a central role in the implementation of the National Housing Fund (NHF) Scheme, offering affordable mortgage loans and construction finance. It also provides funding to housing developers and cooperatives across the country.</p>
<p>Observers believe Gawuna’s political and administrative experience, coupled with his grassroots engagement, will aid in strengthening FMBN’s impact and outreach, especially at the state and community levels.</p>
<p>Dr. Gawuna’s appointment is seen as part of the federal government’s broader strategy to reposition key institutions by bringing in seasoned technocrats and politicians with proven track records.</p>
