The Abuja-Kaduna-Kano dual carriageway is expected to be completed and ready for use in the next 14 months, according to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris. Idris made this announcement during the inauguration of the rehabilitation of Section 1 of the road, which extends from Abuja to Kaduna, on Thursday.
The dual carriageway project is divided into three sections: Section 1 from Abuja to Kaduna, Section 2 from Kaduna to Zaria, and Section 3 from Zaria to Kano. The rehabilitation works are focused on improving the quality and safety of the road, which is a vital transport link between these major cities.
“The Abuja-Kaduna-Kano dual carriageway will be ready for use in 14 months,” stated Minister Idris at the inauguration ceremony. He outlined the scope of works, which includes the scarification and pulverization of the existing bituminous surface to be used as sub-base material, as well as filling of embankments.
Additionally, the project will involve the provision of approved crushed rock material to a thickness of 100mm with three percent stabilization in shoulders and carriageways. Reinforced concrete lined drains and other necessary hydraulic structures will also be constructed to ensure proper drainage and road stability.
“Other aspects of the project include the provision of median barriers and median drains where necessary, as well as the installation of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) with a thickness of 200mm on carriageways and shoulders,” Idris explained.
The minister emphasized that these rehabilitation efforts are crucial for enhancing road safety and reducing travel time between Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano. The improved road infrastructure is expected to boost economic activities and facilitate the movement of goods and people across the region.
The announcement has been met with optimism from residents and stakeholders, who anticipate the positive impact the completed dual carriageway will have on their daily lives and the overall development of the area.
