A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Sunusi Ado Maaji has granted bail of 100 million Naira to a Chinese woman, Zhang Qunfang, who was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of forgery to the tune of over 80 million US dollars and alleged destruction of property in Kano.

Justice Maaji further adjourned the trial date to January 14 and 15, 2025.

Counsel to the nominal complainant, Olusegun Kareem, said the defendant has been released on bail of 100 million Naira with two sureties. One of the sureties must have a landed property in Kano worth 100 million Naira, and the property must be verified by the state Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.

Segun Kareem, counsel to the nominal complainant, noted that the two-count charge against the woman is very sensitive because it involves the destruction of property and forgery. He stated that the other surety must be a businessman whose address must be verified, and the defendant’s international passport must be submitted to the court registry.

Segun Kareem added that Zhang Qunfang also forged the signature of the nominal complainant to withdraw the sum of 80 million US dollars and demolished a property to erect a supermarket.
