<p>A University Don, Professor Saidu Muhammad Babura has described the recent poor performance of the northern States in the just concluded NECO examination to lack of commitments and adequate funds to the education by the governments.</p>
<p>The former lecturer of the department of English, Bayero University Kano, and current Resident Electoral Commissioner Zamfara State made this known in his keynote address at the 55th Anniversary celebration of the Kano Educational Development Centre Old Students Association KEDCOSA held at KASCEPIS, Annex Theatre, Kano.</p>
<p>He said the recent reports of the NECO examination performance in the country is a disgrace to the governments and people of the north considering the commitments of the governments to education sector.</p>

<p>Prof. Babura said the major problems behind is mispriority by government administration to focus on tertiary institutions citing example to Kano and Jigawa states advising them to give attention to basic education especially primary and secondary schools.</p>

<p>He saluted the state governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf for launching state of emergency to education in the state and satisfied with the suspension of establishment of Sa&#8217;adu Rimi University of Education because of its finances, saying the two state Universities of Northwest and KUST Wudil funded by government is enough considering the current economic situation of the nation.</p>
<p>The resident electoral commissioner however commended the government of Jigawa and Kano for providing educational facilities and employ teachers to schools advising them to ensure their quality and commitment to the sector.</p>
<p>He called on the northern States government to provide educational materials to schools such as furnitures and employing qualified teachers to schools as well as engage communities into the sector to achieve their desired objectives.</p>
<p>Professor Babura said the NECO results shows Eastern States took leading position while Kano, Jigawa, Borno Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto took the bottom position.</p>
