President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigerian security and law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts against cybercriminals and transnational car theft syndicates, reaffirming the government’s commitment to combating organized crime and financial corruption.
In a press statement issued by Special adviser to the President on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga sai President Tinubu ordered agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to clamp down on individuals and groups trafficking stolen vehicles into the country. He emphasized that depriving criminals of their illicit gains remains a key strategy in the fight against organized crime.
This directive follows the recent successful operation in which the EFCC returned 53 stolen vehicles and $180,300 to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on behalf of two Canadian citizens defrauded by Nigerian cybercriminals. President Tinubu praised the EFCC for its collaboration with international partners in ensuring that the proceeds of these crimes were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
