Commission of Inquiry Seeks Security Support to Probe Masterminds, Perpetrators of Political Violence

The Kano State Judicial Commission of Inquiry, established to investigate the incidents of violence and destruction during the “End Bad Governance” protests, seeks collaboration with security agencies to ensure a thorough and impartial probe.

Retired Justice Lawan Wada Mahmoud, Chairman of the Commission, solicited support during a visit to the State Commissioner of Police, Commander General Hisba, and MD Karota other security agencies, as part of the ongoing investigation.

Chairman Mahmoud emphasized the need for security support to uncover the truth, identify perpetrators, and hold them accountable for their actions, which resulted in loss of lives and destruction of government and individual properties.

The Commission appeals to the public to provide information and cooperate with the investigation to ensure justice and prevent future incidents. All information provided will be treated with confidentiality and anonymity.

He reiterated that the support of security agencies is crucial in uncovering the truth and promoting peace in Kano State.

Responding,
Commissioner of Police Salmanu Dogo Garba described the scenario that unfolded during the protest as a political issue. He emphasized that the police command, as part of its priority mandate, took proactive measures to maintain law and order.

Commissioner Garba highlighted the success of their operations, stating that 873 perpetrators were apprehended and prosecuted. He assured that, to the best of the police’s knowledge, none of those arrested were released.

“The police command treated the situation with the seriousness it deserved, and our swift action prevented further escalation of the violence,” Commissioner Garba added.

In separate remarks, Commander General Hisba Board Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa and Managing Director of Karota, Engineer Faisal Mahmoud, described the formation of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry as timely and assured their readiness to provide maximum support for the committee’s success.

They commended the state government for taking this bold step towards uncovering the truth and ensuring justice, they pledged full cooperation and support to the committee and have confidence that together, we can achieve a peaceful and harmonious society.
