– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the severe flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, which has displaced thousands of residents and damaged critical infrastructure, including the Post Office and the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Described as the worst flood in recent decades, the disaster was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno, particularly to the families who have lost their livelihoods due to the flood. “I deeply sympathize with the people of Maiduguri who have been impacted by this disaster. The Federal Government stands with you during this challenging time,” President Tinubu said.

While local authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage, President Tinubu has called for the immediate evacuation of residents from affected areas to prevent further casualties. He assured Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum that the Federal Government is ready to collaborate in addressing the immediate humanitarian needs of those affected.

Additionally, the President has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent assistance to the flood victims and mobilize federal resources to support recovery efforts in the state. “We will ensure that all necessary resources are deployed to help alleviate the suffering of the people and to assist in rebuilding the affected communities,” Tinubu affirmed.

The President’s commitment to helping the state recover underscores the Federal Government’s readiness to address the challenges posed by natural disasters across the country.
