Famous Hausa singer, Alhaji Garba Gashuwa, has passed away.

His daughter, Maryam Garba Gashuwa, confirmed the news to journalists in Kano.

According to Maryam, her father died at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital after a prolonged illness.

He is survived by two wives and many grandchildren.

Garba Gashuwa was a well-known political singer. One of his famous songs was during the military administration of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, titled “Sannu da himma Uban kasa Babangida mai san gyara kasata” (“Well done, the leader of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida, who is committed to repositioning Nigeria”).

Another notable song was during the aborted Third Republic, where he sang for popular SDP governorship candidate in Kano, the late Engineer Magani Abdullahi, titled “Kai zakai Gwamna Baba in ma basu so ba” (“You will become the governor of Kano even against their will”).
