An estate developer and activist, Malam Mubarak Ibrahim Lawan, has criticized the Kano State Government’s decision to allocate funds for the construction of the Dan Agundi and Tal’udu Junction flyovers in Kano metropolis. He argued that the funds could instead be used to build 6,000 decent houses for the masses.
Malam Mubarak shared his views on his verified Facebook page, stating that a decent house with three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a parlour would cost approximately five million Naira. He noted that with the funds allocated for one of the bridges, 3,000 houses could be built, as each bridge costs the state government 15 billion Naira.
Currently, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State is constructing two bridges at Dan Agundi and Tal’udu Junctions, each costing the government 15 billion Naira.
The construction of flyovers in Kano began during Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration (2011-2015) and continued under his successor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (2015-2023). While these overhead bridges have consumed billions of Naira, NIGERIAN TRACKER observes that rural and community roads in the state remain unmotorable, public schools are in a dilapidated state, and healthcare services are in a critical condition.
