The Northern Youths APC Merger Group has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Kano State’s Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, over allegations of diverting rice palliatives intended for distribution to the people of Kano. The group claims that federal government resources meant to alleviate the suffering of Kano residents have been misappropriated.
In a press statement signed by the National Coordinator for the Northern Youths Merger Group, APC, Musa Mujahid Zaitawa, the group asserts that Shehu Wada Sagagi concealed the rice in one of his former houses, now converted into an Islamiyya school located in Gandun Albasa Quarters in Kano Municipal. During recent protests, some youths reportedly broke into the house and took the rice.
The Northern Youths Merger Group condemned the alleged actions as unethical and a gross violation of public trust, emphasizing that diverting public resources for personal use undermines the community’s well-being.
The group has urged the EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served, expressing confidence in the commission’s commitment to upholding the law and protecting citizens’ interests.
They further highlighted that despite the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration sending various palliatives to Kano State to ease residents’ suffering, the alleged diversion by government officials has prevented the intended impact on the population.
The group stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in distributing government aid to ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the necessary support.
