Gov. Yusuf meets with NMA Kano branch on lingering crises

Kano state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed for the immediate resumption of medical services at the Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital few days after suspension of its operation by professional associations.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s spoksperson, said the Gov. Yusuf had a fruitful discussion with state branches leadership of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), and National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners of Nigeria (NAGMMDP).

During the meeting, matters releted to welfare, safety of personnel and other issues of importance on the health sector were discussed.

The Governor expressed dismay over attempt of a security personnel to harass and intimidate care givers at Hasiya Bayero Pediatric hospital.

“We wish to condemn in totality this barbaric act and caution all security agencies working in the state to desist from unnecessary display of fire arms at public places that enjoy peaceful atmostphere” said the Governor

Governor Yusuf further re-iterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality , accessible, and affordable healthcare services to the residents of Kano state.

Briefing journalists at Kano Government House shortly after the meeting with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Kano state branch, Dr. Abdullahi Kabir Suleiman, stated the all pending issues were resolved amicably in the best interest of the good people of the state to save lives of healthcare seekers especially children.

Last night, at about 4.00am, Governor Yusuf paid impromptu visit to Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital where he expressed disappointment over the suspension of medical services at the facility as a result of harrasment of health workers by a security personnel.

It could be recalled the Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf had within the few days of his administration, renovated and equipped Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital wher the facility was granted executive approval to provide free healthcare services to children in the state

The hospital was sold to individual by the previous Ganduje led administration, a decision that was reverted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
